SYMPTOMS
You cannot use an e-mail address to search for a Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) entry.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Office XP. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 2 (SP-2).

After you apply this fix, you must add the following registry key.

- Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
- Locate and then click the following key in the registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\LDAP
- On the Edit menu, click Add Value, and then add the following registry value:
Value name: SearchEmailAddress
Data type: DWORD
Value data: 1 - Quit Registry Editor.
