SYMPTOMS

After you uninstall the Microsoft Script Editor that is included with Windows XP (Mse7.exe), you cannot use just-in-time (JIT) debugging to debug scripts or Web pages. Furthermore, you may receive the following error message:

CScript Error: Initialization of the Windows Script Host failed. (Interface not registered)

RESOLUTION

To enable debugging, reinstall Microsoft Script Editor version 7. If Microsoft Visual InterDev 6.0 is installed, Microsoft Script Editor version 7 still functions correctly.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
