SYMPTOMS

If you click Organize Gallery, you may receive the following error message:

There might not be enough memory to complete this operation, or another problem might exist. Please save your work, restart this program and try again.

When you close the error message, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:

PIP caused an invalid page fault in module kernel32.dll

Or you may receive only the first error message when you try to view thumbnails in the Clip Art gallery.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the User.sbc file is corrupted.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, rename the User.sbc file, and then let the program re-create a new User.sbc file. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or folders.
  2. In the Named box, type user.sbc.
  3. In the Look in box, click My Computer, and then make sure that the Include Subfolders check box is selected.
  4. Click Find Now.
  5. Right-click the file, and then click Rename.
  6. Type user.old.
  7. Press ENTER to save this name change.
  8. Close the Find window, and then try the program again.

Remove the program, remove the folders, clean boot and reinstall

Remove the program

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. On the Install/Uninstall tab, click the program that you want to remove, and then click Add/Remove.
  4. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to remove the program.
  5. Click OK, and then quit Control Panel.

Use the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

To clean up the registry and the installation files, follow these steps:

  1. Download, install, and then run the Windows Installer CleanUp utility to remove the Windows Installer registry settings associated with your Microsoft Product installation.

  2. To use the Windows CleanUp utility, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Windows Installer Clean Up.
    2. Select the program that you want to remove, and then click Remove.
    3. Click OK, and then click Exit.
  3. Run the product setup program to reinstall.

Note Because the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility removes Windows Installer-related registry settings and not the program files, make sure that you install the program in the same folder where it was originally installed in to prevent duplication of files on your hard disk.

Clean boot the computer

To clean boot the computer, use the appropriate method for your version of Microsoft Windows.

Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me)

Microsoft Windows 98

  1. Click Start, click Run, type msconfig in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. On the General tab, click Selective Startup, and then click to clear the following check boxes:
    • Process Config.sys File
    • Process Autoexec.bat File
    • Process Winstart.bat File (if available)
    • Process Win.ini File
    • Load Startup Group Items
  3. Click OK.

When you are prompted to restart the computer, do so.

Note To restore your original Startup options, click Normal Startup on the General tab in System Configuration Utility.

Microsoft Windows 95

  1. Restart the computer.
  2. When you receive the "Starting Windows 95" message, press F8, and then click Command Prompt Only on the Startup menu.
  3. At the command prompt, type win, and then press ENTER.


Press and hold down SHIFT until the Windows startup sequence is complete.

  1. Disable any anti-virus or disk tool programs that are installed on the computer.

  1. Quit all the programs that are running except Explorer and Systray.


To do this, press CTRL+ALT+DELETE, click the program that you want to quit, and then click End Task.

If you receive a message that states that the program is busy or not responding, click End Task again. Repeat this step to quit all programs except Explorer and Systray.
