SYMPTOMS

When you start one of the programs listed in the "Applies to" section, you receive an error message that is similar to one of the following:

Error starting program, the mhputil6.dll cannot start, check the file to determine the problem.

Error accessing the registry mhputil6.dll: the file cannot be started.

The Mhputil6.dll file is linked to missing export Ltimg11n.dll:106

Windows installer: PIP.exe cannot access necessary file mhputil6.dll

PIP caused an invalid page fault in module mhputil6.dll

The mhputil6.dll can not start. Check the file to determine the Problem.

PIP has caused an Error in Mhputil6.dll

Error starting program, the mhputil7.dll cannot start, check the file to determine the problem.

Error accessing the registry mhputil7.dll: the file cannot be started.

The Mhputil7.dll file is linked to missing export Ltimg11n.dll:106

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the program installation is damaged (corrupted).

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the following methods in the order presented.

Remove the Program

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.


Note If you are using Microsoft Windows XP, click Start, and then click Control Panel.

  1. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  2. Double-click the Picture It! program that you want to remove.
  3. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to remove the program.
  4. If you are prompted to restart your computer, do not restart at this time.

Run the Microsoft Windows Installer Cleanup Utility

  1. Download, install, and then run the Windows Installer CleanUp utility to remove the Windows Installer registry settings associated with your products installation.

  2. To use the Windows CleanUp utility, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Windows Installer Clean Up.
    2. Select the program that you want to remove, and then click Remove.
    3. Click OK, and then click Exit.
    Note Because the Windows Installer CleanUp utility removes Windows Installer related registry settings and not the program files, make sure that you install your program in the same folder where it was originally installed to prevent duplication of files on your hard disk.

If the program in question is not listed in the Windows Installer Cleanup utility, continue to the next section of this article. If the Windows Installer Cleanup utility successfully removes the earlier version of this program, skip to the "Reinstall the Program" section.

Perform a Clean Boot of Your Computer

To perform a clean boot of your computer, use one of the following methods, as appropriate to your version of Microsoft Windows.

Windows XP

  1. Click Start, click Run, type msconfig in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. Click the General tab, click Selective Startup, and then click to clear the following check boxes:
    • Process System.ini file
    • Process Win.ini file
    • Load Startup Items
  3. Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All.
  4. Click OK, and then click Restart to restart the computer.


Note To restore the computer to use a typical startup, on the General tab, in the System Configuration Utility, click Normal Startup -load all device drivers and services, click OK, and then click Restart to restart the computer.

Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me)

Windows 98

Run the System Configuration utility (Msconfig.exe) to perform a clean boot. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type msconfig in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. Click the General tab, click Selective Startup, and then click to clear the following check boxes:
    • Process Config.sys File
    • Process Autoexec.bat File
    • Process Winstart.bat File(if available)
    • Process Win.ini File
    • Load Startup Group Items
  3. Click OK.

When you are prompted to restart the computer, do so.

Note To restore your original startup configuration, re-run the System Configuration utility (Msconfig.exe), click the General tab, and then click Normal Startup.

Reinstall the Program

Insert the first CD-ROM (of the Picture It! program in question) into your computer's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. If Setup starts automatically, follow the instructions on the screen to install the program.

Note Do not use the Minimal installation option.

If the Setup program does not start automatically, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type cd-rom:\setup.exe in the Open box.


In this example, cd-rom is the letter of your computer's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.

  1. Click OK.
  2. Follow the instructions that appear on your screen.

We recommend that you use the Typical or Full installation option to prevent usage issues after you install Greetings or Picture It! If you use the Minimal option, the clip art may be listed but represented by a standard icon instead of than a thumbnail image. To gain access to the clip art, right-click the standard icon, and then insert the appropriate CD-ROM.
