SYMPTOMS

When you use a feature such as Find, or when you open previously saved maps in Microsoft Streets and Trips, you may receive blank results. Or, the program may stop responding.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if Microsoft Internet Explorer is not correctly updated on the computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, restart the computer by using a clean boot procedure, and then reinstall Internet Explorer. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Perform a clean boot. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, click Run, and then type msconfig in the Open box.
    2. In the System Configuration Utility dialog box, click Selective startup.
    3. Click to clear each check box under Selective startup, and then click OK.
    4. When you are prompted, restart the computer.
  2. Look to see which version of Internet Explorer is currently installed. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Start Internet Explorer.
    2. On the Help menu, click About Internet Explorer.
    3. Note the version number.

      Note If Internet Explorer 5.5 is installed go to step 3. If Internet Explorer 6 is installed go to step 4.
  3. Reinstall Internet Explorer 5.5. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Insert the Streets and Trips CD in the computer's CD or DVD drive.
    2. Click Start, click Run, type the following text in the Open box, and then click OK:

      <D>:\OSP\1033\IE5\EN\ie5setup.exe

      In this example, <D> is the letter of the computer's CD or DVD drive.
    3. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to complete the installation.
  4. Reinstall Internet Explorer 6.0. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Insert your Streets and Trips 2003 or Streets and Trips 2003 CD in your computer's CD or DVD drive.
    2. Click Start, click Run, type the following text in the Open box, and then click OK:

      <D>:\OSP\1033\IE5\EN\ie5setup.exe

      In this example, < D> is the letter of the computer's CD or DVD drive.
    3. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to complete the installation.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, remove and reinstall the program. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Quit all the programs that are running.
  2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  4. Click Microsoft Streets & Trips 2002, and then click Remove.
  5. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen.
  6. After the removal is complete, close any open windows, and then put the Streets & Trips setup CD in the CD drive.

The Setup program should run automatically, and you can follow the wizard to install the program.
