OL2002: A Contact Returns in the PT_UNICODE Format When You Use the 'ResolveName' Method in a PST File

SYMPTOMS

If you use the MAPI ResolveName method to refer to a personal folders (.pst) file, a contact may return in the PT_UNICODE format instead of the expected PT_STRING8 format. You may notice this format problem in string properties (for example, in the PR_DISPLAY_NAME and the PR_EMAIL_ADDRESS string properties).

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Outlook 2002 returns this information in a PR_UNICODE format although it was not requested to do so.

RESOLUTION

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 2 (SP-2).
