OL2002: Attachments Do Not Appear in the Preview Pane If You Downloaded the Message from a POP3 Client

SYMPTOMS

If you use Post Office Protocol version 3 (POP3) to download a message that has an attachment from an Internet Newsletter service that contains both the Content-ID and the Content-Description fields, and you first open the message by using the Preview pane in Outlook 2002, the attachment does not appear.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the message is formatted in a way that the Preview pane cannot handle.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Office XP. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, turn off (disable) the Preview Pane, and then restart Outlook 2002. To turn the Preview Pane feature on or off for the current folder and view, click Preview Pane on the View menu.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 2 (SP-2).
