SUMMARY

When you attempt to connect to an Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0 server from the IIS 5.1 Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in in Microsoft Windows XP Professional, you receive the following error message:

Remote administration of IIS 6.0 from IIS 5.1 is not supported. Please upgrade to IIS 6.0 Administration Pack

To remotely administer an IIS 6.0 server, use one of the following methods:

  1. Download and install IIS 6.0 Manager for Windows XP from the following location:
  2. Use Remote Desktop (which is formerly known as Terminal Services) to remotely manage the IIS 6.0 server.
  3. Try remote manipulation of the metabase. The metabase is XML-based, so you can make changes by using a text editor, such as Notepad.
