SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft FrontPage, when you attempt to publish your Web page, the Publish Web command on the File menu is unavailable and appears dimmed.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when you attempt to publish Web pages that are not part of a Web. To publish Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) files, the files must be contained in a FrontPage Web.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, create a new empty Web, import your HTML file or files to the Web, and then publish your Web. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Start FrontPage.
  2. On the File menu, point to New, and then click Web.
  3. In the New dialog box, click Empty Web, and then click OK.
  4. On the File menu, click Import, and then click Add File.
  5. In the Add File to Import List dialog box, locate the HTML file that you want to import, click Open, and then click OK.

The file is added to the Folder List in your new Web.

NOTE: If the HTML file that you want to import contains graphics or other associated files, repeat step 5 to add the files to the Import list, click Open, and then click OK.

  1. When you are ready to publish your Web, click Publish Web on the File menu.
  2. In the Publish Web dialog box, specify the location where you want to publish your Web (for example, the location of your Web server, FTP Web server, or a file system location), and then click Publish.
