SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) management packs that you export to use on other computers may not work during the import process. When this problem occurs, management packs that are installed on the computer may stop working.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because null characters are inserted in Microsoft Knowledge Base articles that are stored by MOM 2000.

RESOLUTION

How to Install the Hotfix

Note You can use the following method only for Intel-based computers that are running Windows 2000.

Apply this hotfix to each computer that meets the following criteria:

  • If the computer hosts a MOM consolidator (CAM).
  • If the computer hosts the MOM Administrator console. This also includes any client computer on which you install the Administrator console.

To apply this hotfix:

  1. Copy the hotfix program (Q303841.exe) to either a local shared folder on your computer or to a shared drive on your network.
  2. Run the Q303841.exe program on each applicable computer that meets the predefined criteria. Follow the instructions in the hotfix installer.
  3. Restart your computer.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Microsoft Operations Manager 2000 Service Pack 1.
