SYMPTOMS

When you are trying to install MSCMS 2001 using an Oracle Server, several different errors may be reported. The first appears during the Server pre-requisite checking. The second appears during the Oracle logon dialog when it checks the intended dB schema. The Oracle client network utilities, although installed, can appear as not installed during pre-requisite checking. Also, after you type the known database username and password and Oracle service information, the dB schema check could fail.

CAUSE

The problem is caused by previous installations of Oracle on the computer. Uninstalling does not remove all of the registry entries, potentially causing other Oracle installations to create additional "homes" beginning at 0. During the installation, MSCMS 2001 checks for needed utilities and, by default, it checks in HOME0, which may or may not be correct for the intended Oracle 8.0.5 installation.

RESOLUTION

To resolve the problem, modify the Oracle installation home path, HOME0, to reflect where Oracle 8.0.5 was installed. You can do so by using the Oracle "Home Selector" to specify the HOME where the intended Oracle tablespace exists for the MSCMS 2001 server content.
