SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to publish changes to a FrontPage Web, you cannot connect to the Web server and receive an error message similar to the following:
CAUSE
You receive this error message when your connection to the server times out and is reset. This can occur in one of the following situations:
- The TCP/IP network configuration on your computer is corrupted.
- The Web content that you attempt to publish is corrupted.
The Winsock Error code 10054 (WSAECONNRESET) indicates a "Connection reset by peer."
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, use the following methods in the order that are shown.
Method 1: Reinstall TCP/IP
NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- In Control Panel, double-click Network.
- On the Configuration tab, click TCP/IP in the The following network components are installed list, and then click Remove.
- Repeat step 3 for all TCP/IP components in the list.
NOTE: The TCP/IP network components may appear in the following format:TCP/IP ->Network Adapter
TCP/IP ->Dial-Up Adapter - Click OK.
You receive the following message:You must restart your computer before the new settings will take
effect.
Do you want to restart your computer now? - Click No. Insert a Windows Startup disk, and then restart the computer to a command prompt.
- At the command prompt, type C:, and then press ENTER.
- Type CD\Windows\, and then press ENTER.
- Type Del WINSOCK.DLL, and then press ENTER.
- Type CD\Windows\System, and then press ENTER.
- Type Del WSOCK32.DLL, and then press ENTER.
- Remove the Windows Startup disk, and then restart the computer.
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- In Control Panel, double-click Network.
- In the Network dialog box, on the Configuration tab, click Add.
- Click Protocol, and then click Add.
- In the Manufacturers list, click Microsoft. In the Network Protocols list, click TCP/IP, click OK twice, and then click Yes to restart the computer.
Method 2: Remove Corrupt Web Content
This issue can occur when the FrontPage Web that you attempt to publish contains corrupt content. Delete and then re-create the pages of the Web that you want to publish.
