SYMPTOMS

The following items may not work in "viewlinked" element behaviors in a Frame or Iframe on a Web page:

  • The cut, copy, paste, and delete functions may not work from the shortcut keys or the shortcut menu.
  • The underline, bold, and italic shortcut keys may not work.

These issues persist when the editable element is disabled. These issues occur with binary or HTC files.

RESOLUTION

Internet Explorer 6 SP1 or Later

Add a Q300829 DWORD value to the following registry key to enable this fix:

HKEY_CURRENTUSER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

Internet Explorer 6.0

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Internet Explorer 6. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Note After you install Internet Explorer 6 SP1, you must add a Q300829 DWORD value to the registry to enable this fix. For additional information, see the How to Enable or Disable the Fix section of this article.

Internet Explorer 5.5

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Internet Explorer 5.5 service pack that contains this hotfix.

How to Enable or Disable the Fix

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

After you install this hotfix for Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2, the Encarta Researcher feature in Microsoft Encarta may not function on certain types of Web pages. You can enable or disable this fix on Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2 and Internet Explorer 6 SP1 or later by modifying the Q300829 DWORD value in the registry. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Start Registry Editor.
  2. Locate and click the following key in the registry:

    HKEY_CURRENTUSER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

  3. On the Edit menu, click Add Value, and then add the following registry value if it does not already exist:

    Value name: Q300829
    Data type: REG_DWORD
    Radix: Binary
    Value data: 1 enables hotfix Q300829 (this is the default setting for the Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2 hotfix). 0 (zero) disables the hotfix (this is the default setting for Internet Explorer 6 SP1 and later).

  4. Quit Registry Editor.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1.
