Terminal Server Profile Path and Home Directory Are Ignored When You Log On to a Kerberos Realm

Article ID: 299968

Article Last Modified on 10/27/2006

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 1
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server

This article was previously published under Q299968

SYMPTOMS

When you log on to a Kerberos realm, the terminal server profile path and home directory may be ignored. Instead, the terminal server logon may use the regular roaming profile, and this may cause problems with profile consistency.

CAUSE

This problem can occur if the Graphical Identification and Authentication file (Msgina.dll) does not retrieve the user name before it retrieves the terminal server user properties. Note that this only makes a difference when the KDC is not running on Active Directory.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
