XFOR: Items in Folders That Are Configured as Newsgroup Folders Are Converted to IPM.POST

Article ID: 295697

Article Last Modified on 2/20/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Standard Edition

This article was previously published under Q295697

SYMPTOMS

Items that you post in public folders that are configured as newsgroup folders or Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP) folders may be converted to the IPM.POST message class, no matter what the original class of the item was. This conversion may break the functionality of non-NNTP items (for example, an item with an IPM.TASK message class).

CAUSE

When the NNTP service is running, the service is notified when new items are added to folders that are published as newsgroups. This problem can occur because the message class of these items is then changed to IPM.POST, regardless the original class. The NNTP service does not check to make sure that it is forcing only items that do not have an original class to the IPM.POST message class.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
