SYMPTOMS

When you run the Ifmember.exe tool from the Microsoft Windows 2000 Resource Kit or the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit, you may receive the following error message:

ifmember: GetTokenInformation failed. Error code returned by system was 122.

This error message may occur if a user is a member of 100 or more groups.

CAUSE

The Ifmember.exe tool uses a buffer with a static size to make the GetTokenInformation function call. After you apply the hotfix that is described in this article, Ifmember uses dynamic buffers.

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
