SYMPTOMS
If you click to clear the check box for the secondary proxy address in the default policy, all of the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) proxy addresses may be removed from all users.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Apply this fix to all of the servers that are running the Recipient Update Service. NOTE: You must apply SP1 to obtain this fix, due to dependencies.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 1.
