SYMPTOMS

After you uninstall Veritas Open Transaction Manager, which is a component of the Veritas Backup Exec software, you may receive the following error message when you restart your computer:

STOP 0x0000007B INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE

-or-

STOP 0x00000050 PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

Switching to the last known good configuration does not help.

CAUSE

Although you have uninstalled the Open Transaction Manager software, there are still some registry keys present that are preventing your computer from starting successfully.

RESOLUTION

You need to manually remove the remaining references to the otman5 driver from the registry. Because your computer cannot start at this point, you need to install a parallel copy of Windows 2000 into a separate directory, and then use Registry Editor to modify the SYSTEM hive in the Windows 2000 registry.
