SYMPTOMS

If you try to synchronize to a Microsoft Exchange 2000 server from the Team Solutions Manager, you receive the following error message:

User information synchronized with the following errors:

Unable to connect to the Exchange Server '<server name>'
Please check the Application Log for details.

CAUSE

Microsoft Office Developer version 1.5 can only synchronize to Exchange 5.5 servers.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 2000 Developer Service Pack 2 (SP-2).

To temporarily work around this problem, either synchronize to an Exchange Server with Exchange Server 5.5 or manually enter user data into the user list.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 Developer SP-2.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior:

  1. On a computer that has Microsoft Office Developer version 1.5 (without SP-2) installed, start the Team Solutions Manager.
  2. In the Synchronization button, use an Exchange server name that has Exchange Server 5.5.
  3. Click Synchronize Now. Note that you receive no error message.
  4. Start the Team Solutions Manager again.
  5. In the Synchronization button, use an Exchange server name that has Exchange Server 2000.
  6. Click Synchronize Now. Note that you receive the error message mentioned in the "Symptoms" section of this article.
