SYMPTOMS

In the Outlook bar, if you click a shortcut that you have created to a folder on your hard disk or right-click the Outlook bar and then click Outlook Bar Shortcut, you may receive the following error message:

Outlook caused an invalid page fault in module kernel32.dll

After you close the Error Message dialog box, Outlook exits to the Windows desktop.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if you drag a folder from your hard disk to the Outlook bar without installing the Integrated File Management add-on.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, install the Integrated File Management add-on component to Outlook 98.

MORE INFORMATION

Integrated File Management for Microsoft Outlook 98 is an add-on component that enables you to search your computer's local hard disk or a network drive for any type of file. It allows you to create a shortcut on the Outlook bar for a file folder. The Full installation of Outlook 98 adds this component by default. If you installed Outlook 98 with the Typical or Minimal set of components you need to add the Integrated File Management component.
