Game Voice: How to Improve Voice Command Performance in Games

SUMMARY

When you use voice commands in games, the execution of the commands may be delayed.

If this occurs, you can reduce the duration of the delay by running the Microsoft SideWinder Game Voice software in high-priority mode.

To run the SideWinder Game Voice software in high-priority mode, start the software with the -hp command-line switch.

To do this, create a shortcut to the SideWinder Game Voice software, and then add the -hp command-line switch to the shortcut.

To create a shortcut to the SideWinder Game Voice software:

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type the following line, and then click OK

   drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Hardware\Game Voice

   where drive is the drive letter of the hard disk on which the Game Voice software is installed.
3. Right-click the GameVoice.exe file, point to Send to, and then click Desktop (create shortcut).
4. Click OK.
5. Close all open windows.

To add the -hp command-line switch to the shortcut:

1. Right-click the Game Voice shortcut, and then click Properties.
2. Click the Shortcut tab.
3. In the Target box, press END, press the SPACEBAR, type -hp, and then click OK.
   
   NOTE: The -hp command-line switch is not case-sensitive.
   
   The line in the Target box should be similar to the following

   "drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Hardware\Game Voice\GameVoice.exe" -hp

   where drive is the drive letter of the hard disk on which the SideWinder Game Voice software is installed.

NOTE: Running the SideWinder Game Voice software in high-priority mode may also improve the quality of chat sessions.
