This article describes MPS support boundaries for Windows Media Player 7 and 7.1 for Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows Millennium Edition (Me), and Windows 2000. Please do not install Windows Media Player 7 or 7.1 on Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0.

MPSD Setup team supports Windows Media Player on Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows Me. Professional MPS Server Setup team supports Windows Media Player on Windows 2000.

MPS supports the installation and usage of Microsoft Windows Media Player.

Usage includes the receiving and rendering of Active Stream media and audio, multicast file transfer functionality with Windows Media Player, launching media content from a playlist, radio station audio, and the playing of local media files.
Supported media types include:

.cda, .ivf, .aif, .aifc, .aiff, .asf, .asx, .wax, .wma, .wmv, .wvx, .wmp, .wmx, .avi, .wav, .wmz, .wms, .mpeg, .mpg, .m1v, .mp2, .mp3, .mpa, .mpe, .mpv2, .m3u, .mid, .midi, .rmi, .au, .snd

MPS will support testing Windows Media Player with local and streaming content. Streaming content can be tested at the following Microsoft Web site:

Streaming content, not directly served by a Microsoft site, should be referred to the content provider for support.
MPS will troubleshoot codecs following the normal Windows multimedia support boundaries.
