SUMMARY

After you install the Microsoft Commercial Internet System (MCIS) Personal Web Pages (PWP) service with FrontPage Server Extensions by following the instructions in the document "MCIS 2.5 Training Guide," section "Install MCIS 2.5 PWP", from the MCIS 2.5 Resource Kit, you may encounter the following problem:

If you try to use the FrontPage client to connect to a personal folder, the client may stop responding ("hang") during authentication. As a result, you have to quit the FrontPage client.

This behavior is a result of a faulty installation procedure in the "MCIS 2.5 Training Guide" in the section "Install MCIS 2.5 PWP."

MORE INFORMATION

To fix this problem, you can disable anonymous access for the membership instance on the root Web. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Open the IIS Snap-in within the Microsoft Management Console (MMC).
  2. Select the root Web that you created during the PWP installation.

In the Training Guide, "microsoft.com" is used as the root Web name.

  1. Right-click the root Web and select Properties.
  2. Click the Membership Authentication tab.
  3. Clear the Allow anonymous check box.

NOTE: Do not remove anonymous access for the virtual directory "Users".
