SYMPTOMS
The private bytes in RPCSS may rise over time if a programs calls CoCreateInstance and a release on a COM object without terminating the apartment. The leak occurs every time a server process is created for the COM object for the same apartment.
CAUSE
Rpcss.exe does not release the client OXIDs unless the client quits.
RESOLUTION
A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem.
