SYMPTOMS
If your program uses the gethostbyaddr function on a cluster to retrieve the host name for a local online virtual IP address, the HOSTENT structure that is returned may contain the node name instead of the virtual server name.
CAUSE
The Domain Name System (DNS) client cache reports the virtual IP address as local; the node name is therefore returned.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
MORE INFORMATION
This hotfix requires a working DNS Reverse Lookup configuration. Alternatively, you may use a local HOSTS file and enter the host there manually.
