Exchange 2000 Conferencing Server offers multi-person, continuous presence video conferencing to clients. To provide these features, Exchange 2000 Conferencing Server makes use of the TAPI 3.0 and IP Multicast features that are integral to Windows 2000. The ActiveX control that supports multicast was written specifically for Windows 2000 and because Windows 2000 does not run on non-Intel platforms, the ActiveX control was written only for Intel-based systems. Support for the H323 protocol was later added to allow legacy systems, such as Windows NT, to participate in video conferencing. However, because the ActiveX control was written solely for Intel-based systems, video conferencing does not work on computers running Windows NT on Alpha, PPC, or MIPS platforms.
