PRB: OLAP Manager Addin or DTS Task Kit Addin Fail to Install if Both Setups are Started Around the Same Time

Article ID: 255597

Article Last Modified on 10/16/2003

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft SQL Server OLAP Services

This article was previously published under Q255597

SYMPTOMS

If you start the setup.exe program of either the OLAP Manager Addin (Addins.exe) or the DTS Task Kit Addin (DTSTasks.exe) within a few seconds of the other's setup completion, you may see an error message that looks similar to this:

Microsoft SQL Server OLAP Manager Add-ins
An error occurred during the move data process: -113
Component:
File Group:
File: C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\TEMP\PFT1~TMP\data1.cab

CAUSE

Each of the addins installers is a self-extracting Package For The Web (PFW) archive, which starts an embedded InstallShield setup. The PFW process continues to run while the setup runs. When the setup is finished, the PFW cleans up its temporary files (the setup files) and then exits. This takes a few seconds after you see a message box, in which a message appears that indicates the setup is finished. If, within those few seconds you start either of the other addin packages, the previous PFW is still running and has not removed the temporary files, which then causes the error message. It takes few seconds for the first setup to clear.

WORKAROUND

To install both setups without any errors, wait about 5 seconds between the two installs. If the error occurs, run the failed setup again and the setup should then run successfully.
