SYMPTOMS

If you attempt to post a newsgroup message to an invalid newsgroup name, Outlook Express notifies you that the newsgroup name cannot be resolved and that the message cannot be sent. This results in the message not being sent, and you receive the following error message:

The newsgroup newsgroup name could not be resolved.

The message could not be sent.

You must specify one or more newsgroups to post to.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain Outlook Express 5.5. For additional information about Outlook Express 5.5 and how to download it, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

This problem was corrected in Microsoft Outlook Express 5.5.

MORE INFORMATION

In previous versions of Outlook Express, the invalid newsgroup name is automatically removed from the message and the message is sent to all other valid newsgroups to which the message is addressed. The new behavior requires you to manually remove the invalid newsgroup name and send the message again.
