SYMPTOMS

When you view the contents of My Computer, you may see a folder with no title that cannot be opened or deleted. If you view My Computer as a Web page and select the folder, the folder may be named System Folder.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if the registry key for Internet Explorer Web Folders is damaged or deleted.

RESOLUTION

Te resolve this issue, reinstall Web Folders using one of the following methods:

Windows 98 and Windows 95

Reinstall the Web Folders utility by running Setup for Internet Explorer:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  2. On the Install/Uninstall tab, click Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 and Internet Tools, and then click Add/Remove.
  3. Click Add a component, and then click OK.
  4. Click Web Folders in the list of components, click Next, and then click Finish.

Windows 98 Second Edition

Download and install the Web Folders utility from the Windows Update Web Site. Note that you need Internet access to follow these steps:

  1. Start Internet Explorer and connect to the Internet.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Windows Update.
  3. Click Show Installed Updates, click Web Folders Internet Publishing Utility, and then click Download.
  4. Click Start Download.
  5. Restart your computer when you are prompted.

MORE INFORMATION

When the Web Folders tool is installed, an icon is created in My Computer for access to saved Web pages. If the registry keys are not installed properly or become damaged, the folder is blank and cannot be opened.
