SYMPTOMS

When you run the NET LOCALGROUP command at a command prompt on a computer running Windows NT 4.0, a Dr. Watson error message may be displayed citing an access violation error in the Net1.exe file.

CAUSE

This access violation error occurs when you run the command against the SAM database with more than five hundred local groups (whether domain controllers, member servers, or workstations), because the code for the database size is not being processed correctly.

RESOLUTION

Windows NT Server or Workstation 4.0
