SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to install the MSN Gaming Zone plug-in, Netscape Navigator may stop responding (hang) or quit unexpectedly.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if two or more of the following conditions are true:

  • You have previously installed the Zone plug-in or Java Archive (.jar) file, and the file is damaged or an incorrect version.
  • Other programs running on the computer are interfering with the installation of the plug-in.
  • Your Web browser is not properly installed or is not working correctly.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, install the latest version of the MSN Gaming Zone Java Archive file or plug-in. To do this:

  1. Quit Netscape Navigator if it is running.

  2. Click Start, and then click Run.

  3. In the Open box, type the following line (including the quotation marks), and then click OK

    “<drive>:Files<Netscape>”

where <drive> is the drive letter of the hard disk on which Netscape Navigator is installed and <Netscape> is the folder in which Netscape Navigator is installed.

  4. Click the IGZ folder, and then press DELETE. When you are prompted to confirm the folder deletion, click Yes.

  5. Start Netscape Navigator.

  6. On the Edit menu, click Preferences.

  7. Double-click Advanced, and then click Cache.

  8. Click Clear Memory Cache, and then click Clear Disk Cache.

  9. Click OK.

  10. Quit Netscape Navigator.

  11. Restart Netscape Navigator, and then connect to the Zone. The latest version of the MSN Gaming Zone Java Archive file or plug-in is installed automatically when you connect to the Zone.

If the issue continues to occur, quit all unnecessary programs before you attempt to install the Zone plug-in. To do this:

  1. Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to open the Close Program dialog box.
  2. Quit all programs except Explorer, Systray, and Netscape Navigator. To quit a program, click the program, and then click End Task.
  3. Repeat steps 1-2 to quit all unnecessary programs.
  4. Disable any anti-virus programs or disk utilities installed on the computer. For information about how to disable these programs, see the printed or online documentation for the program.

If the issue continues to occur, create a new Netscape Navigator profile. To do this:

  1. Quit Netscape Navigator.
  2. Click Start, point to Program Files, point to Netscape, point to Utilities, and then click User Manager Profile.
  3. Click New.
  4. Follow the instructions on the screen to create a new profile.
  5. Click Finish, and then restart Netscape Navigator.

If the issue continues to occur, Netscape Navigator may not be properly installed. You may be able to resolve this issue by removing and reinstalling the Netscape Navigator software, or by downloading the latest version of the Netscape Navigator software from the following Netscape Web site:
