SYMPTOMS

After creating a folder home page for one of your Outlook folders, there is no way to update the page in Outlook.

RESOLUTION

Add the folder home page to your list of Favorites in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0. The home page will be synchronized each time you start Internet Explorer.

Follow these steps to set Internet Explorer to synchronize the home page each time you start:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Synchronize.
  2. Click Setup, and select When I log on.
  3. Click OK, and then click Close.

To synchronize manually, on the Tools menu, click Synchronize, and then click the Synchronize button. If your Folder Home page references a file that is on your local machine, it must be published to an HTTP web server and synchronized for use offline following the steps above.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

A feature of Outlook is folder home pages. You can associate a published Web page with an Outlook folder, such as your Inbox. Every time you open that folder you see the Web page. If the page is made available offline, it will not be updated in Outlook until you synchronize it in Internet Explorer.

To Create a Home Folder Page

  1. On the View menu, click Folder List.
  2. Right-click the desired folder, and click Properties.
  3. On the Home Page tab, in the Address box, type the URL of the Web page you want displayed when opening the folder.
  4. Click to select the Show home page by default for this folder check box.
  5. Click OK to close the window.

When you click that folder the Home page will be displayed. Clicking the folder again displays the contents of the folder.

To Set Internet Explorer to Synchronize the Home Page

  1. In Internet Explorer 5, type the URL for the Home page in the Address box and press ENTER.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Synchronize.
  3. In the Items to Synchronize window, click Setup. The current page will be listed.
  4. On the Logon tab, click to select the check box next to the Home page listed in the window.
  5. Click When I log onto my computer, to have the file synchronized every time Internet Explorer is started. Click OK and OK, to close the windows.

The home page will be synchronized eeach time you start Internet Explorer. To synchronize manually, on the Tools menu, click Synchronize and then click the Synchronize button.
