SUMMARY

Migration from earlier versions of Microsoft Access to Microsoft Access 2000 is straightforward. When you initially open your database in Access 2000, you have two choices: to convert the database to version 2000, or to open it in version 2000. The Convert Database option performs a binary conversion so that you can take advantage of all the new features of Access 2000. After it is converted, however, you can no longer use the database in earlier versions of Access. The Open Database option leaves your database unchanged, so you are able to share it with users of earlier versions; however, you are not able to make design changes to the database.
