ISREF function will not return FALSE PSS ID Number: Q20024 Article last modified on 03-18-1987 PSS database name: D_MPlan

MS-DOS

Problem: ISREF is supposed to return FALSE if the name is not defined in the spreadsheet. Instead, it returns #NAME!.

Response: Here is a workaround that you can use. Suppose you wanted to check to see if you had a cell or range of cells named “Fred”. If ISREF were working you would type ISREF(FRED). To get it to work properly, you have to enter NOT(ISERROR(ISREF(FRED))).
