SYMPTOMS

When you click the Plug-ins command on the Effects menu, the Plug-ins workpane may display the following message.

   No plug-ins were found.

CAUSE

You must install a plug-in before you can use it.

Because Microsoft PhotoDraw supports the Adobe Photoshop plug-in filter interface, you can install and use many 32-bit plug-in filters from popular third-party programs and vendors. Plug-in filters use an .8BF file extension.

There are no plug-in filters on the PhotoDraw compact discs. However, Microsoft FrontPage 98 includes Microsoft Image Composer version 1.5 and Image Composer includes a plug-in titled "Impressionist."

RESOLUTION

To install a plug-in use either of the following methods.

Method 1

If you are using plug-ins in another application already, follow these steps:

  1. If the Plug-ins workpane is open, close it.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Plug-ins tab.
  3. In the Additional plug-in folder box, type the path to the folder where you keep your plug-in software. You can also click Browse to find the folder on your computer.

Note: If you have Microsoft Image Composer installed, the file Impressionist.8bf is in:

          \\Program Files\Image Composer\PlugIns

  4. Click OK.

Method 2

If you have FrontPage 98 but Image Composer is not installed, follow these steps:

  1. On the FrontPage compact disc, copy the Impressionist plug-in from:

          \ImgComp\enu\Plugins\Impres_1.8bf

  2. Paste the file into the following folder:

          \Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\PhotoDraw\PlugIns

The Plug-ins workpane on the Effects menu now contains the plug-in effects you added. You may apply a plug-in effect.

MORE INFORMATION

You can also use your plug-in filter's installation program to install plug- in files in the following folder.

\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\PhotoDraw\PlugIns

If PhotoDraw is open when you install the plug-ins, you must restart it before you can use the plug-ins.

Although PhotoDraw supports Photoshop-compatible filter plug-ins, it does not support import or export plug-ins.

For more information about plug-ins, see the PhotoDraw Readme file.
