Last reviewed: January 6, 1999
Article ID: Q190576

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Site Server version 3.0

SYMPTOMS

After you install Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4, Site Server Search query results may appear slow during and after a large number of queries. In addition, the Site Server Search server may stop accepting connections after it receives a large number of queries.

CAUSE

This is caused by a memory leak exposed by Windows NT Service Pack 4. Each query leaks approximately 200 bytes.

RESOLUTION

A fix for this is included on the Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4 CD- ROM, which is described in Resolution 1. Alternatively, this fix is also available directly from Microsoft, as described in Resolution 2 below.

NOTE: This Site Server 3.0 fix HAS been regression tested.

Resolution 1 - Windows NT 4.0 SP 4 CD-ROM

To resolve this problem, run the fix that is located in the Support\SS3_Search directory of the Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4 CD- ROM.

NOTE: This fix is only available on the CD-ROM. It is NOT included in the Service Pack files that are downloaded from the Internet.
