SYMPTOMS
When you start Windows 98, your Toshiba Tecra 750 computer may stop responding (hang).
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if all of the following conditions exist:
- Your computer contains an integrated drive electronics (IDE) CD-ROM drive.
- The IDE controller to which the CD-ROM drive is connected is using the driver included with Windows 98.
- You enable direct memory access (DMA) support for the CD-ROM drive.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, follow these steps:
- Turn off your computer.
- Remove the CD-ROM drive from your computer.
- Restart your computer.
- Install the Toshiba drivers for the IDE controller. If you do not have the drivers on a floppy disk, obtain them from Toshiba Technical Support or Toshiba's Web site.
- Shut down your computer.
- Put the CD-ROM drive back into your computer.
- Restart your computer.
