FTP Client Does Not Show the Correct Transfer Size for Files Larger Than 4 GB

SYMPTOMS

During an FTP file transfer using either the Get or Put command, FTP clients do not show the correct file transfer size for files larger than 4 GB, although the file transfer successfully.

CAUSE

This is by design. FTP clients use an unsigned long data type to store the bytes transfer parameter. As a result, it is limited to 4 GB in size.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows NT 4.0 or Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Windows NT 4.0 and Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition. This problem was first corrected in Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4.0 and Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition Service Pack 4.
