SUMMARY

When targeting platforms other than Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0, it is necessary to distribute the messaging subsystem that is built specifically for that platform. This article provides information on where to obtain these files.

MORE INFORMATION

We have provided versions of the Windows Messaging subsystem for Microsoft Windows 3.x and Microsoft Windows NT 3.5x as well as other target platforms such as Alpha, MIPS, Macintosh, and the Power PC. The different versions of the Windows Messaging subsystem are available from the following download site:

There is one executable on this site for each of the targeted platforms that we support. These executables can be distributed freely. The entire contents of an executable must be distributed to the targeted platform. Each executable file at the above site contains a platform specific version of the Windows Messaging subsystem that must be distributed in its entirety.

   File Name Supported Platform
   --------- ------------------
   Wmsalpha.exe Windows NT 3.51 ALPHA
   Wmsi386.exe Windows NT 3.51 INTEL
   Wmsmips.exe Windows NT 3.51 MIPS
Wmsppc.exe Windows NT 3.51 POWER PC
   Wmsw16.exe Windows 3.1, Windows 3.11

NOTE: Microsoft provides no mechanism for developers to redistribute the Windows Messaging subsystem for messaging applications that target Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 platforms. You, the developer, do not have permissions to redistribute the Windows Messaging subsystem in whole or in part for these platforms. Attempts to redistribute the files that make up the Windows Messaging subsystem is a violation of the licensing agreement and is not supported by Microsoft Technical Support.
