SYMPTOMS

If you use some of the arguments with the GetSaveAsFileName method in a Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications Sub procedure to change the default values in the resulting Save As dialog box, the default values are not changed.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur when you use the FileFilter, Title, or ButtonText arguments with the GetSaveAsFileName method.

NOTE: Microsoft Excel Help contains an example of the GetSaveAsFilename method using the FileFilter argument. This example is incorrect.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, do not use the FileFilter, Title, or ButtonText arguments of the GetSaveAsFileName method.

STATUS

This behavior is by design of Microsoft Excel 98.

MORE INFORMATION

Microsoft provides programming examples for illustration only, without warranty either expressed or implied. This includes, but is not limited to, the implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. This article assumes that you are familiar with the programming language that is being demonstrated and with the tools that are used to create and to debug procedures. Microsoft support engineers can help explain the functionality of a particular procedure, but they will not modify these examples to provide added functionality or construct procedures to meet your specific requirements. The following sample code uses the InitialFilename argument to modify the default file name in the Save As dialog box that is displayed:

   Sub Test()
      Application.GetSaveAsFilename InitialFilename := "MyFile"
   End Sub

However, when you use the FileFilter argument, the default file type is not modified by the argument, as in the following sample code:

   Sub Test2()
      Application.GetSaveAsFilename FileFilter := "TEXT"
   End Sub
