SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to add a file to your Favorites folder, changes to the folder may not be saved and you may not receive an error message.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if all of the following conditions exist:
- Your computer is configured to use a common Favorites folder.
- You have uninstalled Internet Explorer version 4.0.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, reinstall Internet Explorer.
NOTE: You can reinstall an earlier version of Internet Explorer to resolve this issue; Internet Explorer 4.0 is not required.
For information about reinstalling Internet Explorer 2.0, see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

MORE INFORMATION
When you configure your computer to use a common Favorites folder, the registry entry for the Favorites folder may point to a folder using a specific path such as %SystemRoot%\Internet\Favorites rather than a variable path such as %UserProfile%\Favorites.
