APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition
  • Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 Standard Edition

This article was previously published under Q177644

SYMPTOMS

When a Macintosh user adds, deletes, or changes a comment on a file located on a computer running Windows NT Server 4.0 and running Services For Macintosh, the date and time stamps on the file are changed as viewed by both Macintosh and PC users. This is not correct behavior in a Macintosh environment. In this case, altering a comment does not constitute a change to a file.

CAUSE

Services for Macintosh relies on NTFS, which is a different operation than HFS uses by the Macintosh computer. Any change to a file will cause the date and time stamps to be altered.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows NT 4.0 or Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
