SUMMARY

This article provides a method for converting a .pic file to R G B A Channels (e.g. for compositing purposes, if you require a layer that contains only the alpha channel of an image or .pic sequence).

MORE INFORMATION

  1. To convert your .pic file, use the soft2raw image converter.
  2. Next, use the rename script to copy the raw alpha file (test.a) over the other channel files (test.r, test.g, test.b). It is imperative that the output file keep its original channel name (e.g “rename test.a test.r”). So, in effect, you end up with four alpha channel files named test.r, test.g, test.b, and test.a.
  3. Now, use the raw2soft image converter to convert the alpha channel file back to .pic format.
