XCON: MTA: Content Conversion Error 210 with ISO 6937 Bodypart

SYMPTOMS

When receiving a message from a foreign X.400 MTA that has an ISO 6937 Bodypart and an IA5 Bodypart, Microsoft Exchange Server may log the following event to the Windows NT Event Log:

   message NMI0210: X.400 Service Event, severity 14

The message cannot be delivered, and a Non Delivery Report is created.

CAUSE

This is caused by an invalid encoding on the foreign X.400 system. The following is an excerpt from a traced message:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Exchange Server version 4.0. This problem was corrected in the latest Microsoft Exchange 4.0 U.S. Service Pack. For information on obtaining the service pack, query on the following word in the Microsoft Knowledge Base (without the spaces):
