SUMMARY

When using the versions of Microsoft Project listed above under Windows NT 3.51 and Windows NT 4.0, you cannot change the paper size using the Page Setup command. You must use the Print dialog box every time and the setting is not saved.

MORE INFORMATION

With the versions of Microsoft Project listed above, under Windows NT versions 3.51 or 4.0, the paper size settings are not saved when you use the Page Setup dialog box. As soon as you click OK to go back to Microsoft Project, the setting is lost. In order to change the paper size setting with Windows NT, you must use the Print command and then click the Printer button.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, you could use the Print dialog box instead of the Page Setup command, you could reset the job defaults, or you could build a new printer with your paper size for the default paper size of that new printer.

To Use the Print Dialog Box Under Windows NT versions 3.51 or 4.0

  1. On the File menu, click Print.
  2. Click the Printer button.
  3. Click the Setup button.
  4. On the Paper tab, select the proper paper size.
  5. Click OK to return to Microsoft Project.

NOTE: Unfortunately this setting is saved only once per print job. You must perform these steps each time you want to print with a paper size other than 8.5 x 11.

To Reset the Job Default Under Windows NT, version 3.51

  1. In Windows NT, start Print Manager.
  2. Select the desired printer, and then click Properties on the File menu.
  3. Click Details.
  4. Click Job Defaults.
  5. Change the form to the desired size. Click OK three times.

NOTE: To have sufficient privileges to change the default form size for a printer, you must be a member of the Administrators or Power Users group.

To Reset the Job Default Under Windows NT, version 4.0

  1. In Windows NT, go to My Computer.
  2. Go to the Printers icon.
  3. Using the right mouse button, click on the default printer and click properties.
  4. Click on the Device Settings Dialog
  5. Click on the Auto Select option in the top pane.
  6. Click the desired paper size in the bottom pane.
  7. Click OK to return to the Add Printer icon.

To Create A Printer With the Paper Size as a Default under NT 3.51

If you have permissions to change printer properties, you can create another printer icon by using the following steps:

  1. In Windows NT, start Print Manager.
  2. On the Printer menu, click Create Printer.
  3. In the dialog box, type a printer name, such as Project Printer.
  4. In the Print To and Driver To boxes, type the name of the printer you use with Project.
  5. Click Details, and then click Job Defaults. Change the form to the desired size.
  6. To exit Print Manager, click OK three times.
  7. In Microsoft Project, click Print on the File menu.
  8. Click the Printer list, and select the printer you created in steps 1-6.

To Create a Printer With the Paper Size as a Default under NT 4.0

  1. Under Windows NT, double-click My Computer.
  2. Double-click the Printers icon.
  3. Double-click the Add Printers icon.
  4. In the next step, if you select network printer server, select the shared printer and click OK. If you select My Computer, click Next.
  5. Select the port and click Next.
  6. Select the manufacturer in the left pane, select the printer in the right pane, then click Next.
  7. Select Yes to the question about the default printer in the next dialog box and then Click Next.
  8. Select whether this will be a Shared or Not Shared printer. Click Next.
  9. Select whether or not to print a test page and click Finish.
  10. See Section labeled "To Reset the Job Default Under Windows NT, version 4.0."

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above. We are researching this problem and will post new information here as it becomes available.
