MACINTOSH

==========================================================
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft PowerPoint for the Macintosh, version 4.0 - Microsoft Office for the Macintosh, versions 4.2, 4.2.1

SYMPTOMS

When you place the Microsoft Office compact disc in a CD-ROM drive manufactured by a company other than Apple Computer, the icon for the CD-ROM may fail to appear on your desktop.

This problem may also occur if you try to read any software title on the compact disc.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you try to use the Apple CD-ROM extension with a non-Apple CD-ROM drive. The Apple CD-ROM extension was designed to work with Apple CD-ROM drives only and not with third party CD-ROM drives.

RESOLUTION

Install or enable the driver software that came with your CD-ROM drive. If you do not have the driver software, contact the manufacturer of the device to obtain the appropriate driver.

MORE INFORMATION

CD-ROM drivers come in many different forms. A CD-ROM driver can be a control panel, an extension, or both.

Macintosh-compatible computers manufactured by Power Computing currently ship with non-Apple CD-ROM drives. To load the CD-ROM drivers, turn on the FWB CD-ROM Toolkit control panel.

The products discussed here are manufactured by vendors independent of Microsoft; we make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding these products’ performance or reliability.
