SYMPTOMS

When you debug the QuickWin "QWPIANO" sample included with the Microsoft FORTRAN PowerStation 4.0 development environment, the debugger and Developer Studio (IDE) may stop responding to the operating system requiring the user to reboot the computer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

Steps to Illustrate Problem

  1. Start Developer Studio, and load the "QWPIANO" project into the current workspace.
  2. Rebuild the project by clicking Rebuild All on the Build menu.
  3. Initiate a debugging session. On the Build menu, click Debug, and then click Go.
  4. Using the mouse, click the piano keys until the application stops responding to mouse clicks. Attempting to do any of the following fails:

    • Stop the debugging process.
    • Exit Developer Studio.
    • End the application through the operating system task list.

The only way to stop the debugging session and close Developer Studio is to reboot the computer.
