Off Blank Lines Appear in the Index for Online Manuals

Q142520

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office for the Macintosh, versions 4.2.1CD, 4.2.1aCD

SYMPTOMS

When you view the Index for any of the manuals included in the online documentation for Microsoft Office, you may see an item in the Index that appears blank. However, if you click this blank item, and then click "Go To Topic," the section of the manual for this item appears.

CAUSE

The reason the item is blank is because it is a repeat of the previous item in the list (just above the blank item). In this way, the item is not repeated if there are multiple items under the same topic. The topic for this item is contained on the compact disc.

MORE INFORMATION

Microsoft Office versions 4.2.1 and 4.2.1a are available on floppy disks and on compact disc. If you have the compact disc version of Microsoft Office, you do not receive separate product manuals; however, all of the text of the manuals is contained in the online documentation included on the compact disc.

You can launch the online documentation in two ways. You can either launch the documentation from the Office Manager Online Documentation menu item, or you can launch it directly from the icon for the Microsoft Office Manuals on the compact disc itself.

After you launch the online documentation, and you click Index, when you click an item in the Which Index list, the following online manuals appear:

  • "Microsoft Office Getting Started"
  • "Microsoft Excel User's Guide"
  • "Microsoft Excel Visual Basic User's Guide"
  • "Microsoft Excel Query User's Guide"
  • "Microsoft Word User's Guide"
  • "Microsoft Word Quick Results"
  • "Microsoft PowerPoint User's Guide"

Each of these manuals comes with its own index, and it is in this index that some blank lines may be listed instead of the item.
