SYMPTOMS

When you try to start Microsoft Automap Road Atlas for MS-DOS, you may receive the following error message:

Error 56 Map Too Old

RESOLUTION

Remove Automap Road Atlas from the computer and then reinstall the program. The steps needed to accomplish this task vary with the version of MS-DOS installed on your computer. Use the appropriate steps for your operating system.

If You are Using MS-DOS Version 5.0 And Earlier

To remove Automap Road Atlas for MS-DOS, do the following:

  1. Change directories to the directory containing Automap Road Atlas for MS-DOS. For example, to change to the directory type the following at the MS-DOS command prompt and press ENTER:

    cd

    NOTE: By default Automap is installed into the directory.

  2. From the directory type the following at the MS-DOS command prompt and press ENTER:

    del .map

    Answer (Y)es to the confirmation to delete all files.

  3. After deleting the files in the .Map subdirectory, remove the directory. Type the following at the MS-DOS command prompt and press ENTER:

    rd .map

  4. Delete the files from the directory. Type the following at the MS-DOS command prompt and press ENTER:

    del .

    Answer (Y)es to the confirmation to delete all files.

  5. Change directories to the root directory. Type the following at the MS- DOS command prompt and press ENTER:

    cd..

  6. From the root directory, type the following at the MS-DOS command:

    rd

    and press the Enter key.

  7. Reinstall Automap Road Atlas.

If You Are Using MS-DOS Version 6.0 And Later

To remove Automap Road Atlas for MS-DOS do the following:

  1. From the root directory of the hard drive where Automap is installed, type the following and press ENTER

    deltree /y c:

    where C is the letter of your hard drive.

  2. Reinstall Automap Road Atlas.

If you are using Windows 95

To remove Automap Road Atlas for MS-DOS do the following:

  1. Double-click My Computer.
  2. Click the hard disk drive that contains Automap Road Atlas for MS-DOS.
  3. With your right mouse button, click the folder containing Automap Road Atlas for MS-DOS.
  4. Click Delete. Click Yes to confirm the deletion.
