SYMPTOMS

Although the Microsoft Mouse and the Microsoft Natural Keyboard drivers may load, you cannot access these hardware devices and/or you receive the following error message(s):

Driver not installed. Mouse not found.

-or-

Keyboard Error: Keyboard not found.

CAUSE

These problems can occur if you are using an IBM PS/2 computer and the DASDDRVR.SYS device driver is not loaded before the Mouse or Natural Keyboard drivers in the CONFIG.SYS file.

RESOLUTION

Make sure you are loading the IBM ROM BIOS patch driver (DASDDRVR.SYS) that is designed for your specific computer. This device driver can normally be found on the SETUP disk that you received with your IBM PS/2 computer. If you do not have this driver, you can obtain it from IBM or an IBM reseller.

NOTE: DASDDRVR.SYS is machine specific. For example, you cannot use the DASDDRVR.SYS file that ships with an IBM PS/2 Model 80 on a PS/2 Model 70 computer.

MORE INFORMATION

Most IBM PS/2 computers, especially the IBM PS/2 Model 70, require a device driver (DASDDRVR.SYS) to load before other device drivers in the CONFIG.SYS file. This driver is a patch to the ROM BIOS that allows various third- party hardware devices to work correctly on a PS/2 machine.
